That is a very interesting concept I hadn't thought about; that they might be remotely controlled by someone or something else.  I wonder why they choose this particular shape, the black outline of a person, usually a man.  I also think that no two persons might see the same vision at the same time.  Some people get more details, like the actual shape but another might just see a spark or flash of light.
The shape chosen by the 'entity' is curious since many shadows are shapeshifters as well.
 

There are some over the counter decongestants that have been known to cause people to see shadow people.  I don't encourage this because often the number of pills or tablets far exceeds what is safe.  And it does cause the heart to because unstable, the arrhythmia that you mention.  This can be fatal in some adults and children with any kind of heart problems.  Please be careful.

Ionic Air purifier....not heard of that remedy before but I'll do a bit of research about this.  

I also got rid of shadow people by prayer but I have to acknowledge here, that for some victims, prayers have not always worked.  I think it is much more difficult for those who have not been raised in any particular religious belief at childhood.  As children we certainly believed in the powers of lessons our spiritual leaders taught us.  Even if we break away from them in adulthood, most of us can still tap into that memory if needed or under unfortunate circumstances that befall us.  Some just simply do not have that upbringing though.

I do believe, as you do, that some shadow people come to siphon emotional energy from us in order to function in our plane of existence.  The reason is that, just like in our own world, there are bullies out there that enjoy tormenting people to gain power over us.  It gives them a sense of god-like existence.  It takes standing up to them to get rid of them.  If one can do that, these beings leave for good but only to find someone else to torment.

I agree with LJNox, get a sleep study!  Has your any of the professionals you've seen even suggest it?  It has done wonders for a number of folks who have sleep issues including night terrors.  I would also suggest family counseling on this matter as well, so your kids learn not to be afraid of it and help learn what to do if they witness it. 

Sleep paralysis is not that uncommon at all, many people suffer from it so you are not crazy.  I had it happen to me once; it was extremely unpleasant experience, so I feel for you.  Learn not to panic.  If you are sleeping on your back, see if you can sleep on your side.  Most people notice a significant reduction in sleep paralysis.

As to whether the shadows are around to warn you or simply scare you, my guess is the latter.  The more fear you give off is energy they siphon from you.  They use the energy to manipulate more fully on our "plane of existence". However, I'd take the caution to heart, it may be more your subconscious warning you to be careful while on the road.
